Flax seed

Flax is an annual growing to about ¾ m, grown as a cultivated plant. For the stem of the plant, which is processed into cloth, and for the oil from the seeds, man has used flax for thousands of years, with the oldest records of flax use from the Georgia region dating back 30,000 years. The germinated seed and sprouts are also used for their supportive effects on the human body. The seed contains up to 40 % oil, 25 % protein, 10 % mucilage, as well as fibre, glycosides, sterols and triterpenes. Flaxseed oil, with its unique fatty acid composition, contains mainly unsaturated linoleic, alpha-linolenic and oleic fatty acids. In addition to flaxseeds, the beneficial effects of the buds, especially on the female body, are highly appreciated.

Fennel

This blue-green perennial plant originated in the Mediterranean and is now grown in different varieties all over the world. Its history can be traced back to ancient Greek and Roman times. The Latin word 'foeniculum' or 'little hay' most likely refers to the resinous leaves of fennel. People were consuming fennel as early as 2000 years ago, but at that time the stem was more popular than the fruit. Roman bakers put fennel leaves under bread before baking because of the popular taste. Roman warriors ate fennel to give them courage and wore wreaths of its leaves. The 2nd century physician Galen, declared fennel to be one of the four "warming" seeds. The fennel fruit is characterised by its essential oil, a rich mixture of terpenes such as anethole, fenchone, estragole, pinene and limonene, with other flavonoids being important.
