In nature, reishi (ganoderma) grows on decaying trunks and stumps, especially in coastal areas of China. Reishi (ganoderma) comes in six colour variations, the most common being red. At present, the absolute majority of the world's production of shinbark comes from cultivation (e.g. 99 % in Japan, similarly in China). Because of its ability to regenerate and activate the body's functions, it is used by Russian cosmonauts or Sherpas at high altitudes.
